My first weekend in Fortaleza and it was preeeeetty good :)

It started off well with sleeping late and meeting Gui to check out some potential gyms. We then met Mariana for lunch with some of her colleagues. One of which told me how much he loved Scotland.. always nice to hear! This is my favourite place so far.. nice sushi and great salads. It's another self service so you pay for exactly what you want. And everyone knows I like to try a little of a lot. I get bored easy ;)

After lunch we had a wee nap, as always, and relaxed at home and prepared for some partying. We arrived at Orbitz already a tiny bit tipsy, and stupid me was unaware that I needed ID because I look 12. We drove baaack to Mariana's, picked up my ID and headed back to the club. This time I proved my age and got in. The bouncer giving me some free drinks to make up for it. Well, expensive as Brazil seems to be.. it got me and Mariana each a drink - but a delicious one at that! An iced ginger-lemon vodka. DELICIOUS! I asked about 10 times if I was really drinking vodka. Turn out that I was because I got pretty wasted :) I kept saying how I had drank SO much but didn't feel a thing, and all of a sudden, it hit. We spent the night upstairs in our private location and had lots and lots, and lots of fun...

The night ended about 4:30am with chicken balls! Mmmmm.

Saturday morning was strange. I just couldn't sleep late even though I wanted to. At 10am Mariana finally got up and we took Marelia to school. We headed to the beach to chill with some friends and spend a few hours topping the tan. We went to the sushi self-service for lunch again, and it was great, again! Nap time hit, and then pre-carnival! It was a bit mental, the streets FILLED with dancing brazilians and the samba drums beating loudly. We walked and danced with the music and ended up at the stages on the beach. I was carrying my pineapple vodka and took a picture of the stage through goal posts. SOMEHOW.. I managed to trip over a stone and fall on my bum, whilst holding my camera. I then tried to get up without dropping my camera OR spilling my drink, but instead wrapped my leg around the goal nets and fell again. This time sand falling into the lens of my camera rendering it unable to close. Oh man.. I was gutted. I blew every piece of sand I could from the lens, eventually enough so that it closed, mostly. And still worked. Almost broke Sony N1 number 4! Me, Guigui and Marelia headed back to the house to get ready for the club.. and headed off to Music Box.. wooooaaaaaah :)

Sunday we woke up veeeeery late. 12noon. We all felt so lazy and hungover, we headed to the mall and each got a big stinkin' whopper from Burger King, and it tasted goooooooood. We then headed to the movies and saw "Sherlock Holmes". Really fun film. Afterwards a lil shopping and then straight to Sinara's for her birthday. But we were literally knocked out.. we could hardly keep our eyes open, so the party didn't last too long for us.. Oh, but how good that whopper tasted to a hungover belly. Perfection. But I swear i'm not eating another for at least a year!!!!!

Really fun weekend. I'm a lucky, lucky girl..

Thursday 7th January 2010 - Lazy

If you think i've been lazy here in Brazil, I have no idea what you could call my day today! I got up with Mariana at 8:30am and had some fruits for breakfast.. I then relaxed a bit, had some lunch with Marelia and then headed to the beach. I lay there for around 2 hours, listening to some music and then headed back to the house. I THEN had a siesta and showered.. and went shopping. Me, big G, mini G and Bia went to the shopping street and I got myself some sandals and a new Brazilian style bikini! Afterwards we met more friends and did crab night. It's funny, because talking to Mariana for the past few months after Aachen, she always told me, "oh, tonight is crab night with Henrique", and I always thought about joining in when I arrived. I don't even like crabs, but I just wanted to take part :) I had the baby-crab version.. so instead of having an actual crab that i have to rip apart and bash with a hammer.. I got a little bowl of crab meat in a sauce. Maybe by the end of my trip i'll be tearing off its legs and sucking out the meat. (yuuuuukkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!). Although its been a lazy, lazy day.. I feel exhausted. I had some tummy problems too, so after crabs, we're home and taking it easy. Gonna watch a movie now and fall easily to sleep. Tomorrow I'm joining a gym.. let the workouts begin! Chow amiga's!

Wednesday 6th January 2010 - Culture

Today was a really nice day. I got to sleep a little later than usual and took Ralphie to the beach. Ralphie is our dog here at 400F11, and he is the most cutest, yet troublesome little thing you could imagine! We were out for about 1.5hrs and the entire time was an embarrassing hell. He wrapped himself around my legs at any opportunity, pooped in the WORST places and sometimes just decided he didn't want to budge. Jesus! Pure hell.. never again! On a good note, I did get a little tanning done :)

Afterwards I had some lunch with Marelia and Ms Gomes at the house and took a siesta with Mariana for an hour or so til around 3pm. We woke up, freshened up and took a drive to the Cultural Centre here in Fortaleza. When I say we drove, I mean iiiii drove. Again! It would be fine driving around if I just knew where I was driving to. I haven't got my bearings on this city, AT ALL! I'll get there.. i'm sure. When we arrived we went to a coffee shop that had the coooolest toilets I have ever seen. I loved them. The also had a great couscous with carne de sol and cheese. After a munch and energy shot, we visited some museums that were around. The first was a contemporary exhibition which was just weird! You have to go into a dark room and drag your hand along the wall to walk around, and Mariana got a tad scared and screamed whilst running out saying, "but what if someones there and you cant see them". It was a lil freaky..

I also got to see a museum for childhood toys and for Brazilian cowboys. Mariana knew a lot about the things too and filled me in on all the info. It was really fun. and the first cultural stuff we did since I arrived. But I have 2 months.. I have loooads of time ;) It was around 7pm and night had just settled, so we picked an outside bar and had a vodka with passionfruit in a really nice location listening to some easy tunes. John Legend was one of them.. so relaxing there. An hour passed and it was time to head back..

We freshened up and went off to a bar having a quiz. Well.. there was absolutely no point in freshing up because the bar was friggin TOASTING. It wasn't indoors, so there was no air conditioning. And it was extremely busy. The combination was almost unbearable.. well, until 2 or 3 caiparinha's later when you don't really care anymore! We all got a bit drunk and headed to a small club to shake it. The tunes were cool and it was a tiny place, so we spread across the dance floor and shook it til the cows came home!

Tuesday 5th January 2010 - Beach Day

After such a hard day yesterday, walking around the mall and eating endless amounts of sushi.. we desperately needed a relaxing beach day. It had been 2 whole days since we were last at the beach.. ;) I, misswalker.com, drove with Mariana to pick up Monique to then drive to the beach. It was very weird using your left hand to change the gears, but its easy to get the hang of. My only problem was noticing the red lights telling me to stop! Whoops! I got us safely to the beach where we met some more of Mariana's friends. (She has quite a few!). Whilst the Brazilians sat under the shade, I had myself a little sun longer and soaked up every ray I could. We had some lunch there and I tried Palm Tree for the first time. I didn't even know that palm tree had anything you could eat?! I didn't love it.. it's a bit squidgy and reminds me of seafood. That might have been because Mariana and Vivi were munching on oysters and crab right next to me and the smell was whooshing right up my nostrils! We spent quite a few hours there then me and Mariana left to get our nails done. This time I got a beautiful French manicure and it took 2 hours!!!!!!! and it cost me £5!!!!!!!!! Toes AND hands!!!!!!!!!! This is by far one of my favourite things. So cheap, so cheap. Everything else seems to be quite expensive. Gyms, eating, drinking, shopping.. everything. That's probably my biggest surprise! At the salon was a funny little boy, only 3 years old, and he was the son of the lady doing my nails. He listened to me and Mariana talk English to each other and asked, "mum, why are those girls talking so quiet that I cant hear anything. Do they not want me to hear?". Mariana tired to explain we were talking another language, not whispering, but it's quite a hard thing to describe to a 3 year old. After we got our nails done we freshened up and headed off to a bar to drink some beers and hang out with some friends. Again.. quite a tough day here in Fortaleza.. :)

Monday 4th January 2010 - Fortaleza

My first day in Fortaleza! Mariana had to be in work by 8am, and woke up around 7am. So I ended up waking then too and staying up. I took the morning to unpack all my things and properly move in. Guess I should if im here for twoooo whole months! Spent some time on the phone to Phil too :) Mariana came home quite early and we hung out til lunch time. We met Gui and Vivi and visited Wasabi - an all you can eat sushi restaurant. It had a lot of everything.. which is why we spent quite a bit of time there! Afterwards we picked up Bia and Mini G and headed to the Iguatemi mall for a look around. We had a nice brazilian coffee and went back to Marianas and chilled together. Some of her friends came around and we did a little slideshow of our new years party. You know I like to take photos? ..Well the slideshow was quite long :-P (500 pics in 3 days!).

1st - 3rd January 2010 - Pipa

The first day of the new year.. what to do? Well.. lets have breakfast! The breakfast buffet at the hotel was great.. lots of fruits, eggs, bread, meat, cheese, juices. yumyum. I always start with melon.. my new favourite. I want to eat it all the time! But the thing with watermelon is that it is a holiday fruit, you know? Everytime I bite into it I remember im on holiday! Ah, what a feeling! After breakfast we took a drive to Praia de Madeiro which is a looovely beach that serves even lovelier carne de sol with macaxeira. We swam, relaxed, sunbathed, ate, drank, then headed back to the hotel for another swim. (its the only way to refresh and cool down!!!). After swimming we walked around the town for some fresh juice and all a lil tired from the sun, went back for a siesta. Im getting used to napping in the afternoon now. Love it! We had an easy evening of Thai food, relaxing, hanging outside the hotel and chatting.. tough life, i know!

Day 2 of the new year was perfect! I got to speak with Phil properly for the first time this year, which was a nice start to the day :) We then headed to another beach, this one called Praia de amor which translates as Love Beach. This one is my favourite. The landscaping is gorgeous with rocks and cliffs and beautiful turquoise waters. The water was quite harsh, but there was a small lagoon where you could sit and enjoy the warm ocean. aaaaah! After a few hours, we headed back to the main street and me and G shared a salad.. we then walked around and did a little shopping before heading to another spot to catch the sunset. We ate crepes by the sea in a wooden decking, and drank some caipiroska's to start the night nicely. Around 8pm we headed back and got ready for some partying. I hit the vodka quite quickly and was suddenly quite drunk! :) Walking around the party streets was, for some reason, hilarious. This was the night of Gui-with-a-beard. No need to know what that's all about. It was just FUNNY :) aaanyway, you get the idea.. drinking, walking around, laughing.. with the addition of a 5 minute rainstorm giving off that holiday smell. oh how I love the holiday smell.

Day 3 was a long drive back home.. we left around 11am and stopped for lunch in a self service. We arrived back at 8pm to my missing suitcase! It had been dropped off at the house.. yeeeey. Very, very happy to see my things again :) and to check my emails.. what a looser!

30th - 31st December 2009 - New Year @ Pipa

Waking at 4:20am wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be. Maybe because it was around 8am in Scotland, so it was a more normal time for me. We showered, packed and jumped into the car for the long 9 hour drive ahead. Marianas car had Marilia (her sister), and Vivi (her crazy fun friend). We drive to the nearest petrol station where we met all the other cars and people. There were 17 of us in total heading off to Pipa.. a little beach town that turns into party town for New Year :)

We stopped in Natal for lunch at a self-service place called Mangai where you can top your plate with almost anything and to any amount. I tried a little of everything, my favourite being "carne de sol". Its the tastiest sun dried beef cut into small strips and cooked with onions. OMG! YES! We arrived in Pipa a little late after taking a wrong turn and driving one hour away from the village! Tss! We arrived around 5pm - yes, 12 hours travelling!!!!! After some relaxing by the pool in the dark, we all headed off for pizza.. again. We drank a little and walked around the town..

Day 1 in Pipa, and my first proper day in Brazilian sunshine, we headed to the beach.. of course :) First of all we hit Praia de Pipa, which is the main beach at the village, (theres lots of them). We bathed in the ocean and then took a boat trip to the dolphins. It was hot, the scenery was beautiful and we dove into the ocean from the decking. What a cracking day!!! And it was only 1pm ;) We all went for a swim in our pools and then headed out to lunch. Mariana and I had another self service, but this time just a small salad and some veggies. We then took a little siesta til 6pm and walked over to Gui, Vivi and Marelia's place.. stopping off for a coffee and some shopping on the way. I bought my first haviana's! Whoopie! Me and Gomes (Mariana), started off the drinking for New Years and had our very exquisite New Year's meal - Cheese and Tomato Toast! We then headed down to the beach to meet the others. I was carrying a litre of vodka.. her with the big green bottle of Guarana. Sexy!! We got to the beach and there was soooo many people. But everyone had their own space which was cool. It was nice to be somewhere that was really busy but where you still had space to be beside all your friends with your things. It was perfect.. we drank, laughed, danced and pee'd til the fireworks exploded over the beach at midnight. We made some videos, took a lot of pictures, danced some more, and eventually headed back to the streets to party some more...

29th December 2009 - First day in Brazil

After arriving at the airport, we all headed back to Mariana's place for some lunch. Some Brazilian foods, including: Farofa, which is a type of flour. You can mix it with some beans and it tastes yummy. We also had some sausages, salad, rice etc, and each filled our bellies to the rim. Straight away I dumped my bags and we headed off to the mall to get me a brazilian sim card, and to pick up some booze for our New Years trip. Vodka, for example, soooo cheap. For a 1 litre bottle it was about £5. So we bought a few.. to drink with this delicious Brazilian soda: Guarana. Its a little like a lime soda, but really refreshing. Might miss it when i'm gone.. :)

After some shopping, me and Mariana headed to the beauty salon. Ahhhhhhhhhh. Heaven. One of my favourite things so far. We got waxed from head to toe and then our hands and nails cleaned, stripped, massaged and painted. Its incredible, it was £20 for EVERYTHING.. and we were there for about 2 hours. I was a very happy girl :)

After being pampered we relaxed at Mariana's place and started to pack for our trip. Unluckily for me, all my beach clothes were still somewhere in Europe in my lost suitcase, so I had to wear most of Marianas stuff. But at least I wouldn't get the Brazilian fashion wrong ;) Her friends came around to meet me, we ate pizza, talked English, a lil Portugese, and by 10:30pm I was exhausted. Completely pooped! So off to bed it was.... my first half day in Brazil and I had already tasted their food, seen their malls, been treated like a princess and met loads of lovely people.

My trip to Brazil started pretty well. I was all packed up and ready to rock before the taxi arrived. I had 15mins to drag my 3 suitcases down the 20million set of stairs we have at 4F1. Perfect timing as I opened the door to the taxi pulling up. He kindly told me to step aside and took care of all my luggage. (Possibly because I was panting from already lifting them down the 20million steps....)

The taxi driver took me to the bus driver who also saw all my luggage and jumped out the bus, lifting everything on, asking where I was off to and for how long. Incredible! This never happens! This niceness continued all the way to my destination and was lucky enough to be sitting the 12hour flight from Paris to Rio De Janero with a really cool German guy. We got on like we had known each other for donkeys.. was hilarious. He even stayed with me for 2 hours at Rio til I went through security for my connecting flight. What a gem.. "Safety First!!".

The stop in Paris however, was quite long. With almost 7 hours waiting, a €12 salad and water (that tasted rubbish), and a lot of boredom, we were on our way to Brazil! The flight to Rio was reasonably comfortable and fun with my new German friend. We swapped seats half way too, to allow for maximum comfyness.. (sitting in the same spot just hurts after 8 hrs).

I arrived safely in Fortaleza around 11am, with only 2 of 3 pieces of luggage. TAM lost my suitcase somewhere. Whoopie. I exited passport control with my 2 luggages and as soon as the doors opened, I heard screaming and saw Mariana racing toward me! "AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH". As expected, I just cried a lil and gave her the biggest hug. It felt so strange.. I had imagined that moment a lot, but I felt completely overwhelmed, almost numb. I was in BRAZIL!!!!! Monique, Marilia, Bea and Marlon were there to pick me up too.. couldn't stop smiling :)

Guess what? ....YEP! Two more sleeps until I wake up, get on a plane (hopefully.. if weather permits), and arrive in Brazil 26 hours later. And im there for a whoooole 2 months and 1 week. It's crazy. And im crazy excited. Can't wait to see my Brazilians..... :)

It really is quite strange to be home sometimes. Just on Friday we were at Tesco and so much had changed! Even the checkout lady was laughing with us that I didnt know what was going on. I knew that I had missed shopping in Scotland, but I didnt realise how much! I was going to ask a shop assistant for something and my first reaction was to think of what I wanted to and try to think of German words! Weird, hu! But I guess for one year (and lots of shopping trips), thats what I did. I've been having a really nice time though with all the little things I missed; hanging out with my family, relaxing all day in PJ's, carboot sales and playing wii with Andy. I decided to have the laziest weekend and let real life start tomorrow. Flat hunting, money making.. blah blah blah. Enjoying my final night of proper freedom tonight.. what should I do? Nothing? Ok... :)

30th June 2009 - Aachen to Edinburgh

Well, today I left Aachen. So strange, so sad, so exciting. All in one.

Mariana did warn me.. "debbie, are you sure you wanna fly from Weeze?" - I said, "heeey, its cheap, it'll be fine". Hmm, wise Mariana got it right again.

I got my train alright from Aachen to Krefeld. But there I had to get off and swap trains to take me from Krefeld to Weeze. The train at 7:07pm didnt show, so I waited another 30mins for the next one. It came, and I dragged my things on, finding a nice spot to chill for the remaining 45 minutes. Hm, everyone seemed to be getting out one stop after Krefeld, even those with big luggage cases who looked like they were going to Weeze too. So eventually an old man told me to get off because there was broken rail lines and we had to take a bus to skip 3 stations. Ok.. not so good when you have 35KG of baggage to lug around, but I managed it. I squeezed on the bus as the last person - all of us without an inch of space between us. So, 10 minutes into the journey, the bus just stops. We all look around and theres no train station, no cars.. actually, theres only grass. AWESOME... the bus that was taking us pass the broken rail lines, broke down!!!!! Is that possible? Well, looks like it, hu! I had to call Bassam to get some info, but used the last of my calling credit. Not a smart move. I was completely stuck and completely late. My watery eyes must have made an old man feel bad for me when he asked me where I was going etc. Eventually he found 2 others from Edinburgh who were returning home on the same flight. We ended up sharing a taxi together and getting to the airport juuust in time. Funny thing is, the flight was delayed 30 minutes. But check in had closed.. I had to get some nice help and have my bags specially checked in last minute. But it worked! And because it was so rushed, Ryanair didnt notice that it was 5KG overweight! Ta Da :)

I made it home 1.5hrs late with my mum, step-dad and bro all looking pretty exhausted and not too happy. No wonder.. 1.5hrs in the airport waiting.. sucks. But i'd rather have been them than me tonight. The bloooody stress of thinking I might miss the flight almost had me having a mini heartattack. and lots of potential tears!!!!! I had some people who really, really helped me tonight.. and I didnt have to pay excess baggage costs. But was it worth it? Doooooont think so.

Now I'm home.. had some toast and tea. And soon to bed. Quite a long day so far.. and tomorrow starts the next chapter. What now????? :)

Today, as expected I couldnt get out of bed until 2pm.. and even then, I was useless. I spent the next 3 hours searching for contact numbers to call Lost property in Amsterdam and then checking prices to replace..

When night time came we all met at Elisenbrunnen for some Festival Fun. When we arrived the outdoor dome had turned into a samba hall.. what an atmosphere! We headed up to the music fest and decided to slip away for some cocktails fuer zu mitnehmen. Man I love the cocktail window. So, 2 large cups of sex on the beach and we headed back to the music fest. We drank, we danced then when it all finished, we grabbed some food and talked some more around the Rathaus MarktPlatz.

Friday 12th September 2008 - Day 10 in Aachen

Fun with Sauli (the Finnish)...

Oh, I think I have fallen in love... Aachen is wonderful! I managed to make the 2nd half of the language class today. Only 3 other people were there... theres usually about 20. So im quite proud of myself!! After class I came home for some quick relaxing then headed out to Oishi for some Thai soup and Sushi. Its been pouring down with rain today, so thought id cheer myself up. I just adore the asparagus sushi.. with the fresh avocado coming a close second. Its my favourite place to eat so far.. by far! I then headed to the post office to collect my parcel2go box. I assumed I could carry it by myself, and of course, I couldnt. Luckily I was meeting Sauli so i figured id wait on him arriving, then he could help. Um, 20mins later, his mobile is saying he has no signal, and he's nowhere to be seen. Hmph. I tried my very best to lift the box and carry it, but my arms caved in after seconds. Now I must be the luckiest girl in Aachen, because right then.. two guys from uni came around the corner and saved the day. Imagine running into them JUST when I need help. Thanks Mexicano and Espana! After they carried the box all the way to my bedroom I gave them a little iced tea and let them look into the girl-street. For free of course ;) haha. We hung out for a bit and still no sign of Sauli.. so decided just to head off.. and there he was, standing at the bottom of the flat.. waiting! We took a walk around the city and dinner time came. Sauli hadn't ever tried currywurst. So there you go! It wasn't a very good one, but nevertheless, it was currywurst. We walked more and more just talking and looking around then went to a cute little bakery for some Kuchen (cakes). We headed back to mine for Tea and Cake (british style) and gave our feet a well deserved rest. I still got my blisters from last night... ouuuuucccchhhh.

Theeeeeeen, I saw in the distance the big wheel lit up, so we grabbed our coats and headed out to the Open Air Festival which is awesome. It lasts all week and theres 4 stages of Music.. all for free. We danced around the stalls with some Alsterwasser and good tunage. Yes Yes. Aachen rocks. But, 9:30pm came and we already had a deal to leave by then because well, lil wasted from last night ---> and tomorrow we have to be up at 6am for a trip to Amsterdam. 35 people, one trip. Cant wait... im gonna see Anne Franks Annex, do a canal trip.. eat some yummy brownies.. etc. But thats me - home, and just about to unpack my box and get my sleep in for the weekend ahead. Have a nice one y'aaaaaaal. Kuss. xx

Another beautiful sunny day here in Aachen! I got home from class around half 1 and picked up some food from the market and had some lunch with friends. Very tasty if i don't say so myself.
.......I DO like the German bread..... I must admit! *blush*

After lunch it was just toooo hot. So we headed to the Stadtpark again. Reminds me of the meadows, (but prettier) because of all the students lazing about on the grass. Still feeling a little whoozy from my cold and ended up sleeping for an hour! Haha! How rude, eh! It was about 5pm, so I headed back to the flat and picked up some stuff at PLUS. Gregor and Lauren came over around half 8 and we headed to Crazy Sushi for some dinner. Miso Suppe, Guerke Maki und Gronig Tee. Mmmm. Think I have a slight addition to Sushi somehow.. I want to eat it everyday and neeeever get bored. After dinner we headed to mine and had some drinks on the balcony before heading to meet some friends. We got some of the infamous 4euro cocktails and took stance at our designated step. 2 x 0.4l of sex on the beach and everyone is ready to dance! We headed over to Apollo and met everyone else for the 'Erasmus Welcome Party'.. then straight to the dancefloor!!!!! Sooooooooo much fun!!!!! I danced and sweat the entire night away!!!! The Mexican and Brazilians suuure like to dance! Such a cheap night too.. Tequila is only about 1euro.. so a few of them here and there and your all set ;). Think I was there til around 4:30am when my feet decided they'd had enough. I walked all the way home in my bare feet, unable to even wear shoes with the blisters that popped up during the night. Ouch! But SEEEEEEEHHHRRRRRR SPASS.

A fellow Erasmuser and I done a little walking tour of Aachen today for the first time since I arrived! A little belated... but its the first chance really. So, after class I headed home to dump some books then we went straight to the Rathaus. We walked and walked and looked and photographed.. until we reach (my favourite place) Oishi on the Ponstrasse. I had a small Thai soup to start and then a Veg Sushi mix. Aaaaaaaaamazing. yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum. Just writing about it makes me wanna go eat it noooow. Its been great weather again today - walking in the sunshine made it feel like a holiday.. nice feeling. Still feeling a little under the weather today with my cold.. but battering on anyhoo. It was pretty late so I headed back to the flat to relax a little. The Germany VS Finland game was on, so Roland and I were laying around the livingroom. Somehow I ended up catching up with alot of people and then suddenly it was midnight! First dad and J & K then Nils then Kirsty then Hakan, and then, and then.. but nice :) And then bedtime for my 7am rising...

Boiiiii is the sun shining today....

But its hotter than that!! I can feel it! So, after class, I take a book and headed straight for the StadtPark.. and its great. I got this really great book from mum, "The Chocolate Lovers" and I couldnt put it down.. it was perfect just laying in the Park in the sunshine for most of the day. Shame though, I had a small cold or something; a headache all day and a running nose. By about 4pm I headed back to my place for some food, and then out walking around. Began to really feel pretty ill.. so headed back to my place and went to bed about 8pm.. my head was just too sore, even with paracetamol. Meeh!

We had a new American dude join our class today! Welcome Miles! Class finished by 1pm, so a few of us headed to the Ponstrasse and tucked into some Turkish grub. We sat there for forever having our faces burnt off and drinking beer.. can't beat that, right? After a few hours we walked around the city a little and then some window shopping. Time was flying by and before we knew it we were in the Hofbrauhaus Aachen drinking Kolsch. My new favourite bier, actually. Call us alcoholic, but then we headed back to my place with a bottle of Vodka and a carton of Iced Tea and some takeaway Sushi. Ayeayeayeeeeee

As to be expected I woke up pretty late.. I blogged a little and relaxed in the livingroom then felt well enough to go out for some food. My new roomie Roland and I went out for some pizza then took a stroll around the city. There was a special maket on in Aachen today with all the shops open and the marketplatz filled with stalls and people and FOOD! It was so busy.. I thought Aachen was a wee place, but the amount of people around is juuuust mental. Anyway, it was a nice day so we walked and talked.. but then the rain started, so we headed back for the flat where I started to feel a little yuk from last night. By this time it was getting into evening, so I had a quiet one, kicking back to a wee film. Aaaaahhh....

Saturday 6th September 2008 - Day 4 in Aachen

Was soooo good to move today. Gregor, Lauren and I headed from Aachen to Julich to pick up my things. We had some lunch there with David and then got back to Aachen around 4pm. At 7pm I had relaxed a little then met with Gregor, Lauren and Sauli for some Thai food. Afterwards we headed to the Ponstrasse which is where all the pubs and clubs are and got some takeaway cocktails. 4euros. greeeeeat. We sat around drinking on the street for a bit which was veeeery funny then met with a bunch of my student-buds. We headed again to Apollo which was heaving.. so so many people. But it was great fun. We danced and drank tequila all night long. I had no idea my stomach could hold so much of it. Its funny because everyone I know in Aachen was there. Even some guys from Aachen who studied in Edinburgh were there. Great great night :):)

Today I moved in to the new place. I love it! the guy im living with had to leave so he dropped off the keys at his brothers place for me to pick up. I was so confused... the brother was his twin and i thought it was my flatmate... annnnnyway, Lauren and Gregor helped me take my things up and that was me! Yippeee!

I spent an hour unpacking a little, then relaxed. Its great.. the sun shines right into my window and onto the balcony. So, the photos, of course....

Friday 5th September 2008 - Day 3 in Aachen

6:30am is WRONG. There shouldnt be a time existing before 9am.

I put my alarm on snooze for another 15mins then realised I HAD to get up. So I did it. And it felt rubbish. I showered, got ready and headed out for 7:45pm. A little late.. But I made it on time. We got into our classes and it was quite strange.. The teacher talked full German (im pretty sure he cant speak English..) so it was tough to know what he was actually teaching us. After class I headed back to David place and relaxed for an hour before I had my flat viewing. The flat was perfect! The room is free for 2 months and its theee best location with a view over the Rathaus and the Dom. Well, I can see the tips of them. Funniest thing though.. Every German city has their Red light District and Aachens just happened to be perpendicular with the flat. I was following the map to get to the viewing and took a right.... oh no i didnt.... I turned into the street and got the biggest fright... a big scary lady standing at a window wearing almost nothing. I almost screamed and turned around running away. It was hilarious.. I just didnt expect to see that AT ALL!!!!!!!

The flat has a balcony with a veery nice view of the dom and rathaus, but also of the street. I can see the first 3 houses with the girls which is a bit weird. Otherwise, the flats great! hehe! So, im sharing with Roland whos also studying. He's seems like a really nice guy.

After the viewing I walked around the shopping area a little and didnt buy a thing! I then headed for some dinner and had my first currywurst. It was pretty poor compared to my experiences in Hamburg and Cologne, but still nice to be reunited with it. But this time.. not every week ;)

I then was back at Davids and got ready for the party that night. The students were having a BBQ welcome party, so I headed there about 7 and again, got lost. But hey, soon enough il get it right.... The party was fun. We drank, we danced, we ate and then drank some more. In total, Sauli and I counted 8 beers each.. and it only cost us 8 euros! Abut 25 of us headed out to Apollo for a bit of dancing and there we remained until the early hours!

Thursday 4th September 2008 - Day 2 in Aachen

Classes start today. Feels like im 5 and starting school for the first day. Gregor takes me there and drops me off.. "Good luck on your first day, go make some friends..."

The placement test was ok.. and I got put in the 'Grundskurs' which is a little up from beginner. I met a few people and we headed for some lunch before the course meeting at 2pm. I had a massive plate of Kartoffeln mit Spinat und Kase Sauce. Quite German and quite yummy. I was hanging out with a Finnish guy, Sauli and an American guy, Tom. We had our meeting and found out some things about our course and I headed to the Rathaus to meet Gregor. Was quite bad as I got lost and had NO idea which way to go. I even had a map but couldnt figure out which was was North. Wheres a compass when you need one???? After about 45mins I made it to the Rathaus when it should have only taken me 15mins. As I arrived I saw Tom walking about so Gregor, him and I headed to the Marketplatz and sat down for a bier. We spent the next 2 hours sitting in the blaaazing sunshine with drinks until the 'happy hour' started when the cocktails were only 3 euros. And then I had my first Aachen cocktail: sex on the beach. Sehr Lecker. Gregor and I headed to his brothers place and bought some pizza and lemon Fanta for dinner. Leeeeeckkkeerrr. We chilled out for an hour and then met up with his girlfriend, some friends and Tom then headed to a pub. 3 Vodka Orangensaft and 2 beers later, Tom and I headed off - our language class was starting at 8am!!! Which means up at 6:30am!!!! So, a 1am departure from the pub was essential!

Wednesday 3rd September 2008 - Day 1 in Aachen

Well.... Not the best day. Firstly Gregor, his brother David and I spent hours searching the internet for available rooms. After 4 hours of calls and emails, I kinda lost hope. We only had 3 viewings out of about 70. But.. off we went to Aachen from Julich and the first place we visited.. well...............

We went in and it was a students residence. The lady sat us down and the first thing she asked was what I want to get out of my time here in Germany. Whats it to do with her??????? I need a room, not another mother!!!!!! Anyway... she then tells me that its for serious studiers and the doors are locked at 11pm. If your not home by then, you have to find somewhere else to stay. You MUST attend weekly meetings on various subjects and you MUST give her your uni schedlue so that she can keep an eye on you. You must not have any friends over etc etc etc etc. I just sat there with Gregor thinking - GEEEETTTT MEEEEE OOOOUUUUT OF HERE!!! Crazy lady. The place was just so miserable.

Secondly, omg, disgusting. no no no no no no no no no no. Thirdly, no!!!!! It was a bedroom for 1 person with a tiny wee cooker and a toilet. It was so sad :( We got another viewing later that day so went to see it, and it was perfect. Well, in comparison to what i'd already seen. But problem was that it wasnt available for another month and 8 people already wanted to take it. So the guy had to decide...

We walked around the city for about 6 hours and I was knackered. We went to Laurens (gregors girlfriend) for a bit then headed back to Julich for 11pm. Had a wee beer, relaxed then to bed by midnight-ish. So.. I've been a little sad today. Doesnt look like there is a home for me here.

Well... I left. Today my flight was from Glasgow > London Heathrow > Cologne/Bonn. The flights were ok, but I expected a little more from Business class, so, disappointing. The lounges were ok.. London was great with a biiig selection of food to munch on. But it did get quite boring; no internet, noone to chat to.. I just wanted to hurry up and land. It was probably only worth the extra money because I was fed and could take more luggage on! Thanks for taking me Andy and Mum!

I landed 10mins early and couldnt see Gregor anywhere.. 30mins later I decide to walk a little and I see him in the distance. I only recognised it was him when he was shaking his legs like he always does. Quite funny.. But actually, for 10mins or so i was worried. My mobile didnt work, I had no change, I had all my bags and NO idea how to get to Aachen and then, where I would stay. (if gregor didnt show). But of course, he did. And then drove me in a nice big German Merc to his place where we chatted to his dad and relaxed til bedtime. Wilkommen in Aachen!!!!!!

After the fireworks, we and about 10million other people headed for the mound and then up to Advocate. Everyone was already there and we showed up almost an hour late because of the people in the streets. But anyway, we drank til closing then headed to Whistle Binkies.. drank some more.. talked.. said the sad and teary goodbyes then headed home about 2am.. meeeeh. Such nice nice people...

They say moving home is one of the most stressful things you do in life.. but everything seems ok for me :) The feeling of having a lot to do is there, but all's going pretty smooth so far. Last night I went to see Iain and we.. (well, I) cooked us a little dinner. We polished off almost 2 full bottles of red and watched my favourite movie; Before Sunset. The movie-snob said it was alright.. you avin a laff Iain??????? Its greeeeat. Anyway, I was sleepy and tipsy by 2am so crashed there and did the walk of shame home in the morning after a bacon roll at 11ish. Poor Iain got papped on his wee couch while I got the bed. Maaaaahaha.

On my way home I took a look around and instantly noticed Edinburgh was so different. Of course!! Yesterday was the last day of the festival so all the foreigners have b*ggared off home. About time!!! You can actually walk along the street without queuing and having flyers shoved into your face. Perfect for my last week :)

I have counted, and well, worked 25 out of 31 days per month, 9 hours at least per day, 6 cafe shifts, 1 photoshoot, 2 festival shows, visited the zoo and Gullane and Linlithgow, met the folks at Woodbankcroft, made 2 thai green curries, hosted a 1 week visit by Nils and Moe (highland tour, whisky distillery, stand comedy show, the advocate, MCK tour, Fiona house party), laughed at Jongleurs, drank 2pints of sex on the beach and BBQ'd with the MKC's til 1am.

Thats pretty muc it for July.

Not quite the trekking I had planned.. but having so much exhausting fun anyway.

As for August :: More festival shows - one amazing Brazilian Dance show called "Bale De Rua", saw Batman on IMAX and had the best curry EVER with my dad and brothers, got caught in the worst Edinburgh rainstorm of the year wearing a tshirt, enjoyed a BBQ in the sunshine at moms, had the walker family over for a fun filled day in edinburgh (shows, MKC tours, luncheon, camera obsecura) and then family Wolstencroft through for a similar day of tourist fun with the addition of the Edinburgh Dungeon - soooooo bad. I also saw mr Newton Faulkner in concert (ammmazing) and attended Mr Thomsons 21st birthday BBQ bashing.

Well... thats the jist of it.

Now im preparing for my move to Aachen, Germany for September 1st. Going for a full year to study there and finish up with work on Saturday. So much to do. Meeh.

So, some things that have happened since my last entry::: a lot.

My new job - working a lot, which being a student, can be quite tough. But I really like the job. Just kills your feet a little when you stand for 8 hours every day, 8 days in a row. Ouch.

Julian also left which was very very very sad. There were a lot of tears and snotty tissues, but well..

I bashed my finger between a door knob and a wall which meant I had to spend half an hour numbing it in ice before having it bandaged up like a little zombie. It didnt look so good when holding a pint of Strongbow.

Last night had a little night out with some people from work. Home at 3am when you need to be in work by 8:30am is NOT a good idea. And its been noted. I talked so much mince to customers by the time 2pm hit.. I was useless.

And now its time for bed again, because work at 8:30am tomorrow calls again.

Finally two days off after 8 days straight as of Wed... brrrrring it :)

Today we took an early flight to Dublin. Actually we were kinda going for these amazing chicken wings we had on our first trip there. So we were killing time from 9am - 4pm when we had our booking. We walked around the the moany rain and visited the Dublin Jail. Actually, the day wasnt so nice to walk around - the weather just sucked. But the wings were good. and it was nice to get on a plane out of the country for 12 hours :)

Julian fancied another Highland tour before he left Scotland, so there we go.. thats what he got! Andy pointed our this great place to see, and I found a cracking beach to go to.. so that was the backbones of the trip sorted! We left Edinburgh around 1pm and headed over to Stirling. We drove into it to do a quick drive by of the castle and surrounding streets - just so that the German could get a feel for it. 6mins later, he did! And off we went..

Not long after Stirling we were driving through the Trossachs and stopping every 5-10 miles for a snap of the beautiful landscape. You dont realise how pretty and special Scotland really is until you head into the countryside. Magic! Within a few hours driving and a good few stops, we reached Inchtree where we had to take a Ferry to Corran and start the looooong drive through 4 villages to Kilchoan. It was single lane streets and mega bumpy.. so.. yep, I was feeling sick the entire drive. and its a long drive.. about 1.5hrs :(

We finally reached the end of the end - the most beautiful Scottish beach I have ever seen. So luckily the sun was just disappearing and by the time we dragged our duvets, tent and food to the beach, we managed to sit down and enjoy the sun setting in the distance. We then flipped open the tent, fired up the bonfire, lit the BBQ and papped our bum on the blankets. Bliss. Soon later we were enjoying some sushi, burgers and wine. A couple hours passed and we headed into the tent. It was strange. The wind was blowing pretty strong and made quite alot of noise at times. Luckily I can sleep through almost anything if I want to, so managed to get s decent sleep with the wind, rain and hard (no) bedding. Waking around 10am (lazy asses, yeah), I opened the little door to see the mooooost beautiful Scottish beach I could imagine. (see pics). Just gorgeous.. and the sun was shining its glorious rays. Shame it was so windy. We say around for a few hours. I had a little breakfast, lay on the beach, collected some shells, then packed up to leave. WHAT A NIGHTMARE trying to repack the tent. IT JUST WASNT HAPPENING!!!!! Anyway, we crushed it into a size big enough to squash in the backseat and headed back the 1.5hour windy road and across the ferry to Fort William. Still a gorgeous day, we stopped for me to have a little bite to eat - I couldnt do another sandwich with my tummy feeling queasy - so had some hearty soup! We then drove down to Glen Nevis and started the hike to the waterfall. Eventually we got there and felt great. Walking barefoot across the rived through the pebbles we reached the waterfall and felt grrrreeeeeeat. Back across the bridge of death, we made it! Hiked back, took ourselves for a well deserved Mcd's and started on the drive home.

The story should end now.. except.. well, the Wittenhagen didnt get any petrol and when the little red light came on, there was no petrol stations open for us. Julian drove as carefully as possible to the next village only to find out the nearest petrol station was 15miles away. Sheisse. We wouldnt make it.. we already drove 10miles with the red light lit. We had to try anyway, hoping to get as close as possible and hitchhike a lift from wherever we broke down. Gawd. Anyway, we made it!!!!!!!!!!!! But.. it being only a bigger version of the village we were just at.. the station was closed. I had to call dad to find out what to do, and he suggested to call our car renters. Sure enough, they sent out the AA to refuel us. So easy.. so happy. Also a little funny.. we went to a bar to kill some time waiting for the AA man, and what a strange little place. We had some beer, played some pool and giggled and the disco lights that were twirling around us. i liiiiked it.

Gooo Deebie, Its yo' Birfday!!!!!

The busiest birthday evvvver. Up early to meet the Frenchies for ticket selling for the big blowout. I was there til around 2pm then met Julian at my place. He had a lovely Tiramisu birthday cake for me so I blew out my candles and then headed off to Scotts for a quick birthday lunch. It was really, really nice. We go there every second day but today was different. We ordered some wine to drink there (which isnt usually allowed) and had yummy sandwiches, olives and chorizo. We sat there, drinking for what seemed like hours enjoying the sun coming through the window and the alcohol dripping into our blood. jaaaajaaaa. Oh, did I mention my birthday presents?! A beeeaaaautiful biiiiiig Orchid from Julian. I love it. Gregor bought me a cool German dvd which I cant wait to see. The time had come around 4:30pm where the relaxing and drinking had to stop - we needed to be at the bongo club to decorate. So, there we were, blowing up balloons and painting paper til 7pm. What a birthday eh.

We had been home to change and arrived back by 10pm. Just a little deco to finish and we were ready just after the doors opened at 11pm. The place looked GREAT.. really, really great. Everything was good to go.. we just needed some people to show ;)

In the end, we had around 100 people there and we broke even. But it was such a fun night, I really enjoyed it. Got dome fun pictures to match too. All this work for a uni project, and on my birthday. PFFTTT!
I would do it again though.. cool night.

Monday 28th April 2008 - Italia

Well, up early as usual.. this time 6:45am to make sure we had time for shopping, coffee and a relaxing drive over to the airport. It felt strange this morning.. I woke up, had a shower and walked around a little packing my stuff with my window wide open. I love the air there. So, packed up and said my goodbyes to the lovely Monesi parents.. then we headed to the supermarket to pick up some yummy mozzarella, parmesano, meats and olive oil. Felt pretty knocked from last night.. but breakfast in Claudios home time soon prepped me up - a cappucino and gooey pastry. The sun was shining in the cool morning.. felt perfect. We didnt have so much time and soon were back in the car on the way to the airport. We blasted the tunes, put down the windows and enjoyed. We stopped off quickly at this strange road that has some even stranger gravity effect. It pulls water in a certain direction. You can even stop your car and it slowly gets pulled in the direction. Maybe its hard to understand reading it.. but even researchers cant explain what's going on.. so how can I? :)

Well, reached the airport in good timing and queued up for my tickets. Things went reasonably smooth and the flights seemed to be on time. Only problem was all the food I bought at the shop.. it wouldn't fit in my bags and there was a bit of a struggle to jam it all in. Success! Thanks to Claudio! We said our goodbyes and parted ways at security.. it was sad. We talked for 4 days straight and had such a nice time.. part of me was sad to leave - such a magical holiday. I saw the most beautiful city I have EVER seen, met a WONDERFUL family, tasted GREAT food and had the perfect host.

Well... the final day in Roma. Im sad. But still one full day of fun to be had. An early start at 7am to catch the train to Napoli. With bedtime at 3am, it was a pretty early start. The drive to the train station was so beautiful. It was around 9am and the sun was peaking out of the sky.. the roads we drove along were so 'typical' Italian countryside. Everything that I had imagined. I cant even describe. But there we were, washed, breakfasted and standing in the queue to buy our train tickets. We didnt have so much time to waste and there was a veeery irritating woman taking 15 minutes at the front of the queue asking endless questions. Eventually the queue had developed and there was 10 people waiting for their tickets to the train that was arriving in just 2 minutes. So as you can imagine.. the mob starting getting a little angry. Everyone starting shouting stuff at her in Italian and soon an argument broke out. So funny. But, our train arrived, we got our ticket and bombed it to our train on the other platform. We made it. We even thought we'd be cheeky and dump ourselves in the first class lounge.. of course expecting to be chucked out at any minute. The inspector came along, checked our tickets, smiled and went along his way... greeeeat. So comfy I managed to catch a few ZZ's. Over 1 hour later we arrived in Napoli.

When we arrived Claudio got a little protective and told me the tales of the dangerous mob-gang-land they call Napoli. It took us a while to get sorted with our tickets etc, but after 40 minutes, we were walking through the streets toward the city centre. I was surprised by the city.. honestly, I didnt like it so much. but im glad I got to see it and experience it. Anyway, on our 1 hour trek to the city we stopped by a pastry stand and I tried a typical cake. Actually I didnt like that so much either.. Maybe I was just in a bad mood ;) We reached a beautiful castle/city hall type building and Claudio wanted to play a game...

So. I stand facing the castle and I close my eyes walking forward to it and should walk in a straight line to land right on the doorstep. Hahhahahaahhahaha. Well. Guess where I ended up????? Facing in the complete opposite direction. I soooomehow did a 180degree turn and started walking away from the castle. It was soooo funny. Im such an idiot! We walked around Naples and sat by the water for a short time. Had another yummy espresso and found a special restaurant located in a small ally with a man playing his violin with the sun beating down. Claudio had been here quite a few times and bigged up the pizza and mozzarella. Well, he was right.. delicious. Running out of time we bolted back to the train station to catch our ride to Pompeii. We got there and walked around for hours. By then my camera didnt want to work, so I missed out on a lot of nice pics. Pompeii was always a childhood dream of mine.. so it was wonderful to visit. We headed back to the station, but got lost, so missed our train. In turn we missed our connecting train to Roma. We waited in the sun with some fresh lemonade and got the next train to come by. We then had to wait about 40 minutes in Napoli station. We did... we were knocked.. and the train was gonna be 20 minutes delayed. Sheisse. We waited more.. it arrived. but it changed arrival track, so we had to once again, bomb to the right platform with about 50 other people. We got on the train which was jam packed full. We realised after 1 hour that the train hadnt stopped at any stations it was meant to, and then it happened.. drove right past our station. We ended up in Roma which 30mins away from where the car was parked. Daaaam. We arrived late and ran to our connecting train to see it pulling away.. how lucky. We then waited 30mins and got on our train. We were finally on the way back. It was past 11pm by the time we got home for dinner. Starved. Claudios parents and doggy were there to welcome us and his mother, to feed us yet another delicious meal. So, so delicious, and such a lovely lady. I was lucky girl....

After dinner and catchup it was past midnight. By then we Claudio was yawning with tears of sleepyness streaming down. I wasnt far behind. Walking aaaall day really knocks you out. But there was one last thing I should see before I left Roma. We packed on as many jumpers and scarfs as possible and jumped in his car. Soon after we started on the drive, I was sleeping. I woke up 20mins later and we were on our way up a windy hill. We arrived at a tiny city in the hilltops with a view over Claudio's town. How many times have I said the word 'beautiful' in this trip??? Too many. But yet again.. a beautiful, beautiful view. The cold wind woke me up and we got back into the car and continued up the hill to an even higher point. We stopped at a hill that was covered in the most intriguing rock formations. We then drove up a windy road and reached the highest point in the area. Claudio pulled down his roof and we sat back and gazed a the Italian stars. Bella, Bella, Bella. On the way back down we passed a bakery, that was preparing for their day ahead. We tried to get some freebies but it just wasnt happening!!!!! We headed back down the windy roads and finally to bed around 4am. With a rise at 7am, I fell asleep even quicker than in previous nights. So maybe within 1.5seconds...

Saturday 26th 2008 - Italia Day 3

I set my alarm for 8:30am today, but when it started signing the song I couldnt do it. I was so completely knocked from yesterday, so closed my eyes a little longer and the next thing I knew Claudio was standing there smiling telling me it was almost 11am. I really didnt wanna sleep.. I had the intention of 'sleeping when I was dead'. Didnt quite work out like that :) After finally dragging my bum out of bed, Claudio prepared a yummy pasta for lunch. We enjoyed some bread with their very own olive oil and then a cheeky espresso before heading for the train to Roma for the last time. We got there and I was so excited again. Maan, do i love this city. Again we walked around. We walked and walked and soon headed for my most favourite.. The Colosseum. We were approaching it and we stopped for a drink at the top of a hill. So there we were sitting on a rock in the baking sun looking down on the Colosseum with an iced tea. Could it be any better????????

We went into the Colosseum today to have a look inside. It was, as expected, spectacular. So much history under your feet. We walked around in the baking sun, I was snap happy and slowly we made our way out and into my second favourite place in Roma - the Forum and Palantine hill. We walked for hours upon hours amoungst the ruins - breathing the same air and walking on the same paths that Romans ancient and elite once did. Oh what an incredible feeling. Hours later we headed for an espresso and ice cream. Here was my very favourite ice cream to date. 2 delicious scoops of Mint Choc Chip. Yum, yum yum. We made our way to the Vatican City which took forever. When we arrived it was dark, but still wonderful to see. Maybe even more special. It was now around 10pm... so far maybe 20km of walking this trip :)

Friday 25th 2008 - Italia Day 2

IIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNCCCCCRRRREEEEDDDDDIIIIBBBBLLLLLEEEEEEEEE!!
What an experience today. Like nothing before. I fell in love with Roma. The day started with a sleepy alarm ringing at 7:30am. I woke up with aching blistering feet from my stupid shoes I wore on the travel, so plastered up and prepared for the day ahead. I wasn't too sure what to expect, but I opened my shutters to the sun blazing in with Claudios dog smiling at me. I could see the vine yards in the distance and smell the thick air. Bliss. We headed off on our journey grabbing an cappuccino and pastry at the train station. We couldn't get a seat for the 20min trip to the city, but stood chatting and enjoying the scenery along the way. If you've ever seen 'Eurotrip' you'll remember the Italian pervert shouting "me scoosie, me scoosie". As soon as I got on the train I had Italians pushing by me saying just that. I instantly thought of this perve in the movie.. And there I was, laughing to myself on a train to Roma..

We arrived. Wow. Where do I start to describe the beauty? We saw almost every sight that was possible to see, we walked the streets, drank espressos, marveled at the history and drooled. At one point we stood on top of a small hill and looked over the magnificent view I have ever experienced.. We stood there for around 30mins just enjoying. Columns everywhere. We walked down and around, every corner turned revealed a new beauty. I was mesmerized. We reached a stretch of road that lead to the Colosseum and started walking toward it, stopping at a Gelateria for a yummy ice cream. We sat in the sun at the side of the road with melted icecream running down our hands.. with the Colosseum as our view. Wonderful.

After hours upon hours of walking around the beautiful Roma, we headed back to his place around 9pm, completely knocked. We were met at his gates by the cuuute dog and then by his parents. His mum had prepared us a delicious meal: thee best pasta I ever tasted, a selection of meats, cheeses and salad with sweet strawberries to finish. His parents didn't speak a word of English, and I didnt speak a word of Italian. Luckily Claudio is fluent in both languages and translated every single word. Even when his mum was asking him about some boxing match.. he told me "my mums just asking about a boxing match". Now that I appreciated so, so much. Not everyone would bother doing that in such great detail. It was a really special meal, we all connected even though we didnt speak to each other directly. Then the fun starts... Claudios dad wanted me to try a typical sweet wine liquer. So I did. And then another because I liked it. And then a Sambuca espresso. With the glasses of red wine we enjoyed with dinner, I was feeling the alcohol running through my blood. We talked some more and even got out a map showing me different areas of Italy. A really wonderful and special night :) After a knackering day we chilled out and ended up finishing off 'The Last of the Mohekians' around 3am. Man was I pooped. Within 2 seconds of my head touching the pillow.. I was snoozing.

Thursday 24th 2008 - Italia Day 1

Roma was incredible...

Well, when you skip past (probably) the worst flying experience i've had yet! I reached Edinburgh airport kinda excited.. to find out that actually, my BA flight was delayed to London, therefore I would miss my connection to Roma. They offered me a re-routing getting me there 2 hours late, which I accepted. Only to then tell me my re-routing flight was delayed and would get me in 4 hours late. Instead they put me on my original delayed flight to London and then changed my London - Roma flight to Alitalia. (What a rubbish airline!!!) I had to run back and forward pushing all my luggage on a cart 5 times. Eventually, it was sorted and I went to drop my bags off and check in for my new flight. The STUPID man at that stands at the beginning of the check out queues kept telling me to check in using my visa card with the BA kiosk. I told him I couldn't, my flight was changed and blah blah blah.. but noooooo, he wasn't listening. "just check in at the kiosk"... "just check in at the kiosk"... STUPID LITTLE BALD BA MAN!!!!!!!!!! I was sooooo angry with all the messing about the had already done, and then this stupid man wouldn't let me pass by to get to the check in desks. I shouted him to get out my way and he opened the lane that swirls around 5 times before it reaches the desk. (the lane thats used when there's big queues of people waiting. There was noone behind me!!!!!!! I screamed at him telling him to open the other lane that was a straight line... but no, he refused, telling me to hurry up. Maaaaaan i was soooooo angry at that stupid little man. and stupid BA. ALWAYS problems, ALWAYS.

Now would be a nice time to start on the Roma fun, but there's just a little idiotic behavior from the airlines left to blog about! I arrived in Terminal 5 of Heathrow with an original flight plan to also depart from there. But of course, my new plan needed me to go ALL the way to Terminal 2, which of course, is the furthest away. A nice addition was that I had some new shoes on which were KILLING my feet and I had to walk over 40minutes to get ti the next terminal.. and i was late!!!!! I arrived in T2 with NO idea was to where I was going. There were no signs, no help.. nothing. I was carrying two heavy bags and my feet were burning with blisters and I was lost and late. I threw my bags to the ground in the middle of the seating area and started to cry. I have no idea why, but I just couldn't take it. I was so stressed and really was so lost with only 1 cleaner in sight who couldn't talk English. It sucked. eventually I called Alitalia and they told me which gate to go to. The flight was boarding and I hadn't had the chance to check in yet..

When I arrived at my gate, I couldn't get in.. there was about 150 school kids scrambling around also checking in. Just my luck. I pushed my way through completely P*SSED off and approached the Alitalia staff. "Your late for check in, your bags won't get here in time, this is no good" he shouted at me. I just wanted to either cry or scream, so instead I calmed down, got my ticket and waited for aaaall the kids to pass me and took my seat awaiting the plane. The last leg of the journey actually sucked. I had a yuk olive sandwich and was stuck in the middle seat between a strange lady and a dam well rude lady. Great. I arrived and went straight to baggage claim as requested by Alitalia staff in London, but they wouldn't deal with me until all baggage passed through - just incase my suitcase had made it over. I waited... and strangely enough, some luck. For the first time that day.. My suitcase was there.. I headed out and there was Claudio awaiting...

And now for the almost-perfect holiday to start..

We drove toward the city and then around the city, catching up on the last 9 months of our lives. I was soaking up as much as possible out of the car window until suddenly I saw the most breathtaking view I have ever seen. We turned a corner and the lights appeared.. little by little the Colosseum was exposed to my eyes. I could hardly breathe.. It was like nothing else.. Incredible.. I cant describe..

Around 3:30am we reach Claudios place.. I met his ssssoooooo cute dog and settled into my room. Completely knocked I was out within seconds of my head hitting my pillow. Alarm set for 7:30am.. To see the beautiful Roma..

Guess whos back.. back again. Shadys back.. tell a friend.

So i've been a little naughty in my blogging all week, but I have a good reason: busy busy busy. Uni work is getting heavy and well, I cant take it.. So I fly to Italy in one week for a break. Lool, actually I just wanted to go to Italy.. I fly out Next Thursday (24th) and head back on Monday (28th). I fly to Rome stopping off at Heathrow Terminal 5 for one hour (wish my luggage all the luck you have). Well, if it goes missing I get to shop in Rome at discount prices.. not so bad! Annyway, 4 days in Italy with a friend I met in Camp America last year.. Claudio. We start in Rome and head to Naples and visit the famous Pompeii. And I think, when I arrive in Rome at 10pm we go to the city and I see the beeeautiful Roma alla notte. Isnt there something special about a night sky lit by a city? Quite excited :) Not to mention visiting Pompeii means conquering a childhood dream.

But, for the next week, I gotta work, work work at uni to make sure I dont miss out on any studying while im away. As soon as im back its the big party then aaall courseworks and exams.. and before I go theres Julians birthday weekend.

Dya know, I still have to think twice when writing the year on my blog entries. For some reason I ALWAYS go to type 2007. Which is strange as its April, I should have it in my head by now. And there leads to another point...

ITS APRIL!!!!

Where did time go? Its just all gone by so quickly. Seems like a month back I moved into this flat. Uni is almost finished, exams are almost here.. its all happening so fast. Thats why photos are great.. they track your life. Even more importantly, thats why my blogs so great. I know exactly where the last 7 months of my life went. I can even track what I was doing 1 year ago today. I know, cool right? I tracked back a year before a couple of weeks back.. and it happened to be the 1 year anniversary of a fun fun fun night with my girl Britta. Had a biiig smile on my face. See how happy my blog makes me?!

Last night was another Saturday night spent at Opium. So much fun though, I love it there.. The strawberry lollies for 50p are greeeeat.
The bouncer ID'd me and being quite drunk I was getting the chat going, asking how young I looked etc. He looked at my driving license and asked "whats your name, whats your age.. whats your phone number". It was hilarious.. I took about 20 seconds to think, 'huh, wheres my phone number on my license.. which number is he talking about'.. and then he cheekily smiled and I caught on. Complete blonde!!!!!!!! Brilliant.

The strongbow was flowing as was the corkies.. party at mine after.. now I have to clean the dam mess. Always the rubbish bit. Despite the lack of sleep, I was wide awake at 10am so we marched over to a cafe on Lothian Road for bacon rolls and irn bru. True Scottish style.

So, today I am typing up an essay and watching the sun shine through my windows..

What a great feeling to travel to uni with the bright sun burning through the windows.. to get there and everything goes smoothly and your throwing your completed masterpiece into the designated coursework box within minutes.. leaving the building into the bright sun that burns your skin.

I love to have a decent coursework finished and tossing it into the box knowing its all taken care of. Is it strange that at that very point is when im most motivated. Isnt that pretty useless? :)

I climbed to the highest peak on Arthurs Seat today.. and I can prove it.

Actually It was fun. Andy stayed over last night, so today we decided to do the walk down the Royal Mile to Scottish Parliment and up Arthurs Seat. We took the tricky way which was shorter, but steaper. So after a fair trek, I was getting knackered. I sat down and 30seconds later Trixie was barking at me.. she was gagging to go on. Little motivator. Eventually we reached the top of the top - the absolute highest point reachable on Arthurs Seat. Not bad for a Deebo, not bad at all.

Seeing as James, Liz and the boys were up from England, we took a trip out to the Falkirk wheel for a bit of Scottish sightseeing. Actually, I've never been before.. but its interesting: the worlds first rotating boat lift that gets boats into the canals that run through Edinburgh to Glasgow.

Well, when we went through the tunnel I feel asleep for 3 seconds. this happened a couple of times. I was knocked!!!!! So I didnt get so much information..

At night we took the boys to the leisure park; caught a movie (Vantage Point), played some pool (me and Joe won), shot some targets and danced to some Gloria Gaynor........................................... >*^$!<&£+>>>>>

You know, its not that their scary, or really all that ugly. But when you see a mouse scattering across your bedroom floor, suddenly nature kicks in and it gets a girl screaming and leaping onto the highest platform she can find, ie a bed or desk. I'll never forget... 2001 at my boyfriends home out in the country, we had just got home from dinner and went to his room, his mum was walking up with us and came in to chat, we were all taking off our coats and suddenly she started screaming. I turned around and saw a mouse running around trying to get into his wardrobe.. his mum freaked, i freaked, we leaped onto the bed, my boyfriend (a bit of a pussy) also jumped onto the bed screaming.. it was hilarious!!!! He grabbed a broom not having a clue what to do..

Like I said, its not that they look scary, or they want to harm you. Its in our genetics to be scared of them!! It is!

Yep. I have a mouse in my house. Last night Julian was nice enough to bring me some food as I hadn't eaten anything and we hear a scratching sound. He swears he saw a mouse, which I was skeptical about because when he lived here, I always heard the noise and he aaalways said it was outside the flat. Anyway, he lifts the drawers.. nothing. He pulls out one of the drawers and the mouse came flying into the air and within seconds, out of the door into the hall. Now that mouse knows her way around my room. She went straight for the door and squeezed through a tiny hole when the door was almost shut. Then, she was nowhere to be seen. Its now 1am the next night.. and im all alone. And I can hear her. Im worried its a 'them' because I have just heard one under my bed then 3 mins later one in the hall. but didnt hear her running from my room to the hall... which means... uh huh. A blinkin family. I read up on them, and sure enough, they're not solitary travellers. They come in packs.

Sure i'll get some friendly traps to remove them but keep them alive.. but i'll be all alone in the flat as of Sunday when Gregor goes to Aachen, so whos gonna take the wee mice outside???? Somehow I cant really see me stomaching it. Although after my 2 second scream-reaction, I was saying how cute she was. And she was..

But still, its creepy. Helfeeeeeen miiiiiiccccch, bitte!!!!!!!!

I haaaaate fevering.

I woke up. Felt ROUGH. I took pills and lemsip, watched a movie then felt better after a few hours. Much better. I then ventured out into the real world for some food. I was okay until I got to the shop and waited in the queue. Theeen I felt rough. I got home and collapsed on my bed falling asleep for the next 2 hours. Woke up and feeling awful again. Its strange.. Some days I can go to uni for the whole day and see nooooone of my buds. Today was a power cut til 1pm, so when I arrived at uni, there was hardly anyone there, but still, I managed to run into even more people than normal.

I think thats strange!!!!!!!!! Isnt it???

Nice day after uni when I caught up with Beata (after about 2 years!!!). I then had a cheeky dance class, all whilst feeling like I was coming down with something. Right enough, I get home, have a bath and have to lie on my dirty floor as im nearly fainting. After seeing Julian for a bit im feeling pretty bad. And right enough. Fever. All night rubbish fever.. daaaaam

Feel sorry for me? haha.

I've had such a good day today, and its only 3pm :)
Got to uni nice and early to finish (in the nick of time) a report this morning. It looks great - The big blowout! Just after, I went to visit the ever-so-cool Patrick Harte and he okay'ed my exams and time abroad next year.. and funnily enough when I told him I wanted to go to Germany, he suggested Aachen. So.. some thinking to do about where I go.. but very veeery excited.

I got home and lay in bed with an episode of Lost (the best part of the day), and now I shower up to meet Greigy boy for some food at Sportsters.

aaaaand then, some girly clubbing at Potterow me thinks! Aye Aye!

I swear I dont make this stuff up.. but..

well, somehow I managed to get from Craiglockhart campus to Scotts - have a bowl of soup - and be in Merchiston campus in 30minutes. It was almost a miracle! Anyway, running a few minutes late for my lecture I bolted down the hall and shortly behind me saw a guy doing the exact same, so I laughed and told him to go first through the door. I never saw him for the rest of the class when he met me outside to ask what module I was taking..

I then found out that actually, the 2 hour lecture I just sat through wasn't Web Development Mehtods. Because I missed the first 5 mins of the lecture, I never realised. I thought we had moved on to a new setion of the course - PHP. He was doing the same module as me and realised he was in the wrong class when the boy next to him told him what lecture it was.

2 hours.. waaaaasted. And I missed my real class that had been moved rooms.
Thanks to Thailand the tutor didnt get my email address on the 1st week, so i didn't get the email confirming the change of room. He sure as 'ell has my email now ;)

But.. forgetting the waste of two hours, it was a fun day.
Now for some uni work.. aaaall night long. Poooooo.

In retaliation to Bryans comment about me moan-blogging at everything (which actually, i've noticed im doing)..

Tonight I missed my bus home because of too much gabbing. It was midnight and I had Amy Winehouse tuning away on the ipod.. it wasnt cold, just crisp. it wasnt windy, just still. and i wasnt hating it, just relaxed. It took me about 20minutes to walk home, but it was so calm strolling along with music in the crisp air. My mind was clear and my skin was tingling. Great feeling.

So, 1 thing to add to my 'think positive' campaign. Maybe I can add 1 thing per day so you won't think im a grumpy sod :)

How silly am I? I get up at a decent hour for my class at 11am.. get there, sit down and prepare. Just when the lecturer comes in looking alot like Ben Bates - The Accounting tutor, i think to myself, 'nah, they must just look similar. Surely enough, he hands me the second sheet with Accounting notes on it and I grab my stuff, running out of the room as fast as I can.

Worst thing is I sat there for aaages while he prepared notes and handed stuff out.

How embarrassing!!!!!!!!

my luck continues today.

as soon as i step out of the flat the rain starts.. it continues for the next 15 minutes as im walking alongside the 'just finished work and rushing home' people. I've never seen the streets of Edinburgh so busy.. and when its raining with people pushing you around, it sucks. Anyway, they turn right to the train station and I get away from them. But what happens then? Well.. I am walking along to find a cash machine and it starts to HAIL STONE on me.. and worse, theres no cash machine!!!!!!

Anyway, I eventually get cash and go buy up my ingredients. The little thai woman makes the journey a little brighter when we talk about Thailand and the weather. Such a niiiice little lady. Well, I get to the station and miss my train by 1 minute. Literally. 1 minute.

I stand in the cold with wet feet and horrible hair for 30mins awaiting my next train.

Fun, fun fun.

I haaaaaaaaaaate the weather.
Bring back summer, or I might just leave!!!!!!!

Why do people queue for the bus when we're waiting on different buses?????????

Isn't that a bit stupid? I stood in the queue and because the man at the front of the queue wasnt getting the bus he didnt flag it down. And there was me stuck behind 12 people unable to stick my hand through the plastic bus shelter to stop the bus.

Dam stupid and dam annoying.

Today was a strange day.
Do you ever have days that you feel like floating along, not really involved with anything? Well, my day was like that. and it was STRANGE! But, in that state sooomehow I managed to get a fair bit of uni work done in my dry-aired uni library. Does it sound odd that the air feels so dry? I think they do it on purpose to make you buy more juice. A bit like theme park and the salty fries! hehe.

Anyway, I drifted along until Business Ethics class, which was really interesting.. Unfortunately the lecture today was entirely based on a module I had done last semester (international business) and a coursework I wrote 3000 words on. So I was a bit of an expert in that one lesson. Makes a big difference from being my usual clueless self ;)

I met a classmate at the bus and had a good giggle on the way home. Only to step out the bus to find some horrible ned swearing and shouting at an old man. I was raaaaaging, and told the guy to shut the hell up. The ned was screaming, 'im gonna rip your f***ing head off' .. TO AND OLD MAN!!!! Who does that???? Idiot!

Headed into town to meet Crystal and Helene for a walk around George Street. It was freezing! We're looking for a place to hold our party.. its proving to be a lil difficult actually.

And right now, im sitting in the flat, with the heating cranked up waiting on Miss Rafferty to arrive with some wine and vodka. We're gonna paaaaarrrtaaaay tonight.

Watch out Edinburgers!! Heehee

11am and the sun was shining. Now maybe Scotland would be much more appealing if it kept up the nice weather. I was waiting on my bus home from uni and the sun was beating down on me.. I LOVED it. Im such a sun worshiper..

Tonight I went to my ladies and enjoyed 'Legally Blonde' for the first time this year :)
